Golf Course and Resort Superintendent

Elk Ridge Resort is a four-season resort which boasts a 27-hole championship golf course located two hours from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and seven minutes outside of Prince Albert National Park. The golf course is carefully designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding forest, creating a challenging yet beautiful space for golfers. As the Superintendent, you will play a vital role in managing the upkeep of this environmentally rich and dynamic landscape.

Job Summary
This position will oversee all aspects of golf course and year-round resort grounds maintenance, staff leadership and budget planning. The successful candidate will balance operational excellence with strategic vision, ensuring the course remains consistently in top condition. Reporting to the Managing Partner, the successful candidate will be a passionate leader who excels at fostering a motivated team, driving innovation and aligning with Elk Ridge’s long-term course and resort maintenance standards.

Responsibilities:

Course Management
-Participating in course preparation, irrigation system maintenance, fertilizer and chemical applications, and record-keeping of all activities.
-Oversee all phases of golf course maintenance, including greens, fairways, roughs and gardens
-Develops and implements sustainable turf grass management programs, including aeration, topdressing and pest management
-Resort Amenities Maintenance/Seasonal Property Maintenance

Summer
-Planting and maintenance of all flowerbeds on resort grounds and condo areas
-Maintenance of all trees and shrub beds on resort grounds and condo areas.
-Maintain hiking trails

Winter
-Oversee and manage the following in the winter:
-Skating pond, cross country ski trails, curling rink, toboggan hill
-Snow removal: Resort grounds, Fairway Townhouses, and Cottages
-Installation of seasonal lighting and outdoor Seasonal Holiday Décor

Team Leadership/Leadership and Collaboration
-Recruit, retain and train Turf Management Team
-Organize and delegate work schedules
-Collaborate with the Head Golf Professional to ensure golf course maintenance supports the member experience and tournaments
-Member of Elk Ridge Management team

Budgeting & Financial Management
-Develops the annual maintenance budget and ensure accurate financial reporting in collaboration with the Corporate Controller
-Tracks and manages all expenses, including payroll, chemicals, equipment and supplies
-Works with Managing Partner and Ownership group to identify, plan and execute capital improvement projects to enhance the course
-Operations Safety Compliance
-Ensures compliance with and federal/provincial safety regulations, including pesticide application and equipment use
-Develops and manages a preventative maintenance plan for all mechanical equipment, along with Resort Mechanic

Qualifications
-3-5 years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent
-2 or 4-year Degree or Certificate in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science or related field.
-Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to recruit, train and retain high-performing staff.
-Expertise in turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and the application of fertilizers and pesticides. Valid Pesticide Application License required.
-Solid understanding of financial management, including budget development, forecasting, and cost control.

Compensation
$80,000 – $100,000 based on experience. Full time, on site from April 1 – October 31 of each year. Winter work as required.
