Position Overview


We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Golf Course Head Superintendent to lead the maintenance management and operations of our premier 18-hole championship golf course, located in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Elmwood Golf Club completed a full renovation project in 2019 by Les Furber. In 2025, we have approximately 445 active members, and did approximately 22,500 rounds, mixed between public golfers and members.
Our club is committed to providing exceptional playing conditions year-round, emphasizing environmental stewardship, innovation, and member satisfaction. Reporting to the General Manager, the Head Superintendent will oversee a dedicated turf care team, manage budgets, and implement agronomic programs to ensure the course meets the highest standards of playability and presentation. This is a full-time, year-round position with opportunities for professional growth in a collaborative and supportive environment.


Additionally, Elmwood Golf Club has recently completed construction of a new maintenance facility (with lunchroom, bathrooms, shower and lockers) and invested significantly in new machinery and equipment to ensure playing conditions are some of the best in the province.


Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement comprehensive turf management programs, including integrated pest management, irrigation, drainage, and cultural practices to maintain optimal course conditions.
• Lead, train, mentor, and evaluate the turf care team, including assistants, maintenance staff, and equipment technicians, fostering a positive, safe, and high-performing work culture.
• Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, course setup, and inspections to ensure consistent quality across greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and surrounding grounds. The superintendent’s direct reports will be two full time year round staff (Assistant Superintendent and Head Equipment Technician) and a team of seasonal maintenance staff.
• Manage operating and capital budgets, control costs, approve expenditures, and collaborate on long-range planning and capital projects.
• Maintain accurate records for inventory, payroll, equipment maintenance, chemical applications, irrigation usage, and compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Implement data-driven approaches and technology where practical to improve productivity and cost control. Continuously review and identify efficiencies in labour deployment, maintenance practices, equipment utilization, and purchasing
• Ensure all equipment, buildings, irrigation systems, and infrastructure are properly maintained, including preventative maintenance programs and emergency repairs.
• Enforce health and safety protocols, conduct staff training on safe equipment operation, and comply with provincial legislation, permits, and licenses.
• Communicate effectively with club management, board members, committees, and other departments to align on priorities, strategies, and member experiences, including regular meetings with the General Manager/Director of Operations and monthly grounds committee meetings. Act as a primary ambassador for the golf course, maintaining a professional and approachable presence with members and committees.
• Adapt to seasonal demands, including winter maintenance for year-round operations, and handle hands-on tasks as needed in varying weather conditions.
• Represent the club at industry events, stay current on advancements in turfgrass technology, and contribute to master plans for course enhancements.


Qualifications and Requirements
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Turfgrass Management or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience as a Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or in a senior turf management role at a golf course, with a proven track record of leading high performance teams and consistently delivering superior course conditions. Designated accreditation with the CGSA is considered an asset.
• Valid Pesticide Applicator’s License (or ability to obtain within 90 days), Integrated Pest Management (IPM) certification(asset), valid driver’s license, chainsaw certification (asset). and WHMIS
• Proven expertise in agronomy, irrigation systems (e.g., Rainbird or similar), equipment operation, golf course construction, and grow-in projects.
• Working knowledge of equipment repairs and mechanical systems – The superintendent will oversee a full time year round Head Equipment Technician.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate teams, communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), and build relationships with staff, management, and members.
• Proficiency in computer skills for record-keeping, budgeting, and data analytics
• Physical ability to perform hands-on work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, operating heavy machinery, and working outdoors in diverse weather conditions, including during evenings and weekends if necessary.
• Demonstrated commitment to environmental practices, safety compliance, and delivering superior course conditioning in a private or semi-private club setting.

• Competitive salary range: $80,000 - $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
